Two-step account checks
A second verification step can help protect an account, but a code only helps if you keep it private and enter it on the correct site.
Know the method
The account may use a text message, email, authenticator or another method. Check the operator’s security settings for setup and recovery instructions before changing devices.
- Never read a code to someone claiming to be support.
- Treat unexpected code requests as a warning sign.
- Keep recovery options current and protected.
Trouble signing in
Confirm the device clock if an authenticator code fails. Wait for a previous request to expire before requesting another. Use the official recovery route if the registered phone is lost.
A practical check
Before replacing a phone, check how the account handles a lost device and whether backup methods can be set. Keep recovery information somewhere secure and separate from the device. A new phone should never require sharing a one-time code with another person.
